My (late) review of “V”

I forgot to DVR the premiere of ABC’s “V” the night it aired so I finally had a chance to watch it last night on Hulu.

I’m a total sucker for alien shows and movies.  One of my favorite movies of all time is “Independence Day” which is kind of ironic considering that the series premiere of “V” reminded me of that movie for first 3/4 of it.  In fact, there is a line from a character in the show that says “Dude, this was ‘Independence Day’ — which was a rip-off of any number of alien predecessors.”

So all comparisons aside allow me to give my opinion.

It starts with alien ships mysteriously showing up over dozens of cities across the globe.  They soon send out a message of peace and reassure earthlings that they’re here in peace.  They say it has something to do with them needing resources that only Earth can offer and in turn for taking our resources, they’ll provide us with valuable technology advancements and improvements.  Sounds cool huh?

This is where I actually stopped caring about this new show.  Why?  Because it quickly became obvious that the line about “coming in peace” and “sharing technology improvements” was just a smokescreen for the real reason they’re here.  Yawn.  Predictable and cheesy.  I mean, it got bad quickly!

I’m kind of bummed because the episode started great.  Will I watch the next episode?  Yes–but if it doesn’t improve I won’t make it to episode 3.

There’s still time to fix it.  Otherwise, I’ll be left watching new episodes of “The Office” and “House” because those are really the only other shows that I’m hooked on right now.

Here is the TV trailer for “V.”
