Dear Zac, Jimmy, John, Coy, Clay, and Chris,

Greetings from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), and congratulations on your Grammy win for Best New Artist! As you may know, PETA is the largest animal rights organization in the world, with more than 2 million members and supporters dedicated to the protection of animals. You have many fans here at PETA.

We’re writing today to ask you to extend your love of freedom to animals by agreeing to partner with us on a veggie “eat and greet” for your fans. In your song “Chicken Fried,” you praise the simple pleasures of life-a cool drink, a home filled with love, enjoying the sunshine-all pleasures that are denied to the millions of cows, pigs, chickens, and other animals raised for food on factory farms every year.

Life on the farm isn’t what it used to be. Green pastures and idyllic barnyards have been replaced by windowless, cramped, filthy metal sheds. Animals are treated as nothing more than products, with little regard for their health, happiness, or basic needs. Pigs are often confined to concrete stalls so small that they can’t even turn around, chickens are fed antibiotics and grow so large that their legs become crippled from supporting their own weight, and cows are slaughtered and dismembered while they are still conscious and able to feel pain.

The good news is that it’s easier than ever to enjoy delicious, cruelty-free meals! To show just how tasty a plant-based diet can be, we’re sending you a basket of delicious, protein-rich faux meats. We hope you will enjoy these cruelty-free products with your friends and family and will consider working with us to help spread a message of compassion and freedom for all living beings in this world.
