Underwood lands first movie role

Multiple sources (Variety, Us Magazine, Access Hollywood, et al.) have confirmed that Carrie Underwood has been cast in her first studio movie, “Soul Surfer.”

The movie is based on the life of 19-year-old champion surfer Bethany Hamilton who has defied all odds to compete and win professional championships after losing her arm in a shark attack at age 13.

Underwood has been cast as Sarah Hill, a church youth leader.

The movie also stars AnnaSophia Robb as Bethany Hamilton, Helen Hunt as Bethany’s mother Cheri and Dennis Quaid as Bethany’s father Tom.

And Jack Nicholson’s 19-year-old daughter, Lorraine, plays Hamilton’s best friend, Alana Blanchard, who was with Hamilton the day of the attack.

“Soul Surfer” is slated to begin filming in February.

Underwood recently said she felt ‘right at home’ on the set of “How I Met Your Mother.” (The episode is set to air in March.)
