You better watch your speed from now on. The technology that makes red light cameras such a pain in the butt is now being used to catch speeders!
Hamilton is now the first city in Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky to begin “speed vans.”
The Enquirer reports “For the first 30 days, officials will send out warning letters to registered owners of vehicles captured on the van’s camera, which is linked to radar and a computer. The camera’s shutter is rigged to photograph only vehicles that blast through school zones and other targeted areas by at least 9 mph over the limit.”
Starting May 1, if you receive a ticket in the mail, you’ll have three choices. 1. Pay the fine. 2. Sign an affidavit listing another person as the driver. 3. Request a hearing to fight the citation.
Now, this part is interesting. “Violations are not put on the vehicle owner’s state driving record and also are not reported to insurance companies. But failure to pay the fine could be reported to a credit bureau.”
Just another fine example of revenue enhancement I think.

mmm I love pretzels!
