MAVERICK
Monday - Friday, 5 a.m. - 10 a.m. & 3 p.m. - 6 p.m.
I'm an Eastsider although most of us born and raised across the county line prefer Clermont countians.
After graduation from Amelia high school and my first radio experience at what was WCNE at Northeastern high school, I headed off to Ohio University then back home to start my career. The real kick off came just a couple of months later when I became the DJ at a major Cincy nightclub called Lighthouse Ltd., Yea it was a disco but hey I got to wear shiny clothes. I've been through the cities of Dayton, Ft. Wayne and Grand Junction Co. playing the hits on the radio before I moved my little family to Charlotte to do theater. I was allowed back into the Nati in '88 to play DJ again at WWEZ, yea the elevator music station, just before it became Majic 92.5. Anyone remember that one?
My tenure in country music started in 1994 as Saturday night's hit player on Young Country Y-96.It was at a Christmas party just after the New Year in 2000 when I was asked if I would become a traffic reporter for B-105. Nine years of flying over the city, yep, I was really up there in a plane until gas prices eventually grounded all airborne traffic , but after a year in the studio, B-105 listeners are really the best source for accurate updates when they call to let me know of problems they've just seen.
If you must know I've been married twice but my Paula is that one person we all look for that some call a soul mate. Our blended families include 5 kids. Three of them are soldiers, one already through, one in Afghanistan, and my daughter who is a reservist. She brought the first grandchild into the family a little over a year ago. My step-daughter is a school teacher and our teenage son is still working his way through his dreams.
My favorite part of the Chris Carr and Co. show is finding stories that are just strange enough to be believable. I come back to the studio in the afternoon to be a part of Big Dave's show from 3 - 6. I continue to cover traffic reports but write ideas for some of Dave's funny bits. (Any that you don't think are funny, I had nothing to do with.)"Things you'll never hear Trace Adkins say" remains the most fun to write because an idea comes out then Big Dave's twisted sense of humor turns it into something that requires me to keep diapers and an oxygen tank close by.
Hobbies? Well not really unless you consider a couple of hours of Spongebob Squarepants a day a hobby. I'm just a kid who was forced to grow up on the outside, but on the inside I'm... veins, organs, bones and stuff. What did ya think I'd say, Peter Pan?
